STAGEMICHI / BEHIND THE GUIDE

About StageMichi

Last updated:

A small stage can become a memorable part of a trip. StageMichi helps overseas visitors and music fans discover live houses, jazz venues and live music bars in Tokyo and Kanagawa, and find the official information they need to plan a visit.

A starting point for discovering local music

Japan's smaller music venues offer many ways to experience live performance, across genres and neighbourhoods. Finding them can be difficult when venue names, access instructions and event listings are mainly in Japanese. We bring venue information together in an English-language guide, with area and station searches, map links and saved venues to help you plan.

Our current coverage focuses on Tokyo and Kanagawa. We include venues that host live performances; large concert halls, arenas, stadiums and clubs without live performances are outside the guide's current scope. The directory is a work in progress and is not an exhaustive list.

StageMichi is an independent guide operated under the name StageMichi. Listings do not imply a partnership with, approval by or endorsement from a venue. We do not sell tickets or take bookings.

Where the information comes from

We use venue websites, their access pages and publicly available venue information to research listings. Existing venue directories also help us find candidates for further checking. Official venue information takes priority when checking addresses, access and whether a venue hosts live performances.

Descriptions and genre labels are provided to help you explore. Genre labels are editorial navigation aids, not a promise about a particular performance. Translations and summaries may omit details, so use the official event listing when making plans.

How we maintain the guide

Our workflow combines manual editing with automated collection to support research. Candidate information and suspected changes need review before publication. Updates are prepared locally and published as site files; this is not a live feed from venue booking systems.

We prioritise corrections to addresses, official links, access details, relocations and opening or closure status. Reviews may also change descriptions, venue categories or genre labels. There is no fixed review interval for every listing.

A “Last checked” date, when shown in a venue guide, records the listing's research date. It is not a guarantee of current opening hours, ticket availability or a check of every field on that date. Where no valid date is recorded, the venue guide says “Date not recorded” rather than assigning a date.

Before travelling, confirm the performance date, opening time, admission, drink charges, age restrictions and booking requirements with the venue or ticket provider. These details can vary by event. English support and walk-in entry should not be assumed.
