STAGEMICHI / BOOKING A LIVE MUSIC VISIT

How to buy live house tickets in Japan

By StageMichi · Editorial review:

Start at the official event listing and use the purchase or reservation route it names. Before paying, check whether you can complete registration, payment and ticket collection with your own phone and travel dates. There is no single booking method that works for every Japanese live house.

Start with the official event, not a generic ticket search

Find the performance date on the venue or organiser's official programme. Confirm the city, room, artists, OPEN and START times, then follow its booking link. A venue can use different methods for different shows, and an old booking instruction may no longer apply.

If you are still choosing a show, use the Tokyo live house guide and the venue search. StageMichi links to official programmes; it does not sell tickets, hold inventory or confirm that an event has space.

Read the whole route before starting an application. An overseas card being accepted at payment does not prove that your phone can display the ticket, and an English page does not necessarily mean every domestic sale is available internationally.

Which booking method should I use?

Scroll the table sideways to see all three columns.

Route on the official listingWhat to check firstWhen it is confirmed
International or visitor sales pageWhether this event is included, eligibility, card acceptance and delivery method.Follow the seller's confirmation and ticket delivery instructions.
Domestic ticket serviceAccount, phone authentication, app/device requirements and collection deadlines.A completed application may still require payment or later ticket download.
Venue or artist reservationOnly use this if the event offers it; check the accepted request method and what is paid at entry.Look for the stated acceptance or reply; sending a request alone may not secure a place.
Day-of-show ticketWhether door sales are allowed and places remain available.Admission is subject to the organiser's actual arrangements and remaining space.

For an example of visitor-specific conditions, Lawson Ticket publishes guidance for use from overseas. It limits available services and warns that overseas-issued cards may not work. Use the route offered for your event rather than assume a domestic account or every presale is accessible. [1]

Do I need a Japanese phone number or ticket app?

It depends on the seller, ticket type and event. Check before purchasing. A phone that can browse a website over a data connection may still be unable to complete a required voice or SMS verification.

Lawson Ticket's domestic member-verification FAQ describes authentication with a Japanese mobile number capable of receiving calls, and says it cannot be completed from overseas. That is not a claim that every visitor-sales route has identical requirements; check the instructions for the route you are actually using. [2]

Sma-ticket requires the eplus app and a compatible smartphone; some overseas devices are unsupported. Check its download and phone-verification requirements before buying. A travel data eSIM does not by itself establish compatibility. [3]

Do not borrow a number, invent an address or plan to bypass authentication. If the offered route is not usable with your setup, ask the seller or organiser whether that event has an authorised alternative before paying. If none is offered, choose a different show with a booking method you can complete.

Check payment, delivery and entry as separate steps

  1. Review the full total. Separate the ticket price, seller fees, issuing or delivery fees and any drink charge payable at the venue. Check what is included before confirming an order.
  2. Check the payment deadline. A store-payment reservation is not the same as a paid ticket. Lawson's overseas guide says store payment must be completed in Japan within the applicable deadline. Do not choose it if you will arrive after that deadline. [1]
  3. Read the collection instructions. Note the required store or app, collection number, identity requirements and collection period. Not every confirmation email is itself an admission ticket.
  4. Prepare the entry method. Sma-ticket requires its app ticket screen; screenshots are not accepted. Other formats have their own instructions. [3]
  5. Keep the device and account usable. Check Sma-ticket's warnings before deleting the app or changing devices or numbers after download. Order backups help with support, but do not replace tickets. [3]
  6. Confirm companions' arrangements. Check whether each person needs an app, a separate account, ticket distribution or to enter with the purchaser. Use the official distribution function only where the event allows it.

Before completing payment, read the event's change, cancellation and refund policy. If a show is cancelled or changed, follow the organiser and seller's announcements rather than assume that travel costs or every extra charge will be reimbursed.

Can I buy a live house ticket at the door?

Sometimes a programme lists a day-of-show price or a venue offers door sales, but that is not a universal walk-in policy. Confirm the date, whether advance tickets are sold out and whether day tickets are actually being offered. A price on a page does not reserve capacity for you.

If you cannot find an answer, contact the venue using its published channel. Keep the question specific: “For the event on [date], are door tickets available, and what should I bring?” Do not send payment details or identity documents in an ordinary enquiry unless an authorised process specifically requires them.

A direct reservation may have a different confirmation and payment process from an advance ticket. Use it only when the official event offers that option. Keep the accepted reservation name exactly as instructed.

Useful words on Japanese ticket pages

前売 / ADV
Advance ticket or advance price. Check the sale period and whether additional fees apply.
当日 / DOOR
Day-of-show ticket or price. It does not by itself guarantee remaining tickets.
予約
Reservation. Look for who accepts it, how acceptance is confirmed and when payment is due.
抽選
Lottery selection. Applying is not a promise that a ticket will be allocated.
先着
First-come sale. Confirm the start time, eligibility and purchase process.
整理番号
Admission or reference number. Follow the event's entry-order instructions; it is not automatically a reserved seat.
ドリンク代別 / +1D
A separate drink requirement may apply. Check the specific amount and payment instructions.
OPEN / START
Usually admission opening and performance start, respectively. They are different times to plan around.

Questions overseas visitors ask

Can I use a foreign credit card?

Check the specific seller and event. An accepted card brand is not a guarantee that every overseas-issued card will work. Lawson's visitor guide explicitly warns of restrictions. Have a confirmed authorised route, not a plan to try random sellers after a payment failure. [1]

Can I buy without a Japanese phone number?

Some event routes may be usable, while others require local authentication. Read the route's actual conditions; do not assume either that all Japanese tickets require a local number or that an international-facing page removes every restriction.

Is a screenshot enough to get in?

Not for systems that require a live app ticket. Sma-ticket explicitly rejects screenshots. Keep the correct device charged and use the required ticket screen. Paper collection and other formats have different instructions. [3]

What if I cannot complete the booking?

Contact the seller or organiser before paying or before a deadline passes. Ask about an authorised option for that event. StageMichi cannot change account eligibility, recover tickets, confirm reservations or arrange refunds.
